Image Compressor
Toolvetta’s Image Compressor reduces a photo’s file size by saving it again at a lower quality. Choose a quality level and JPEG or WebP output, select Compress, and the tool shows the real size before and after, so you can hit limits like 100 KB or 50 KB. Images never leave your browser.

How to compress an image
- Select one or more JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF images.
- Set the quality. Start at 75% and lower it for smaller files.
- Choose JPEG for the widest support, or WebP for smaller files and transparency.
- Select Compress, compare the sizes and download. Still too big? Reduce the pixel size with the Image Resizer.
Image Compressor: frequently asked questions
How do I compress an image to 100 KB?
Set the quality to about 70% and select Compress. The result shows the exact new size, so if it is still over 100 KB, lower the quality in steps of 10 and try again. For very large photos, first reduce the width to about 1600 px with the Image Resizer.
How do I reduce image size to 50 KB or 20 KB for an online form?
Small limits like 50 KB or 20 KB need both steps: make the image smaller in pixels with the Image Resizer (for example 600 px wide for a photo, 300 px for a signature), then compress it here at 50–60% quality.
How do I compress an image without losing quality?
Start at 75–80% quality: most photos look the same but are much smaller. Lower it until you can see a difference, then step back up a little. WebP usually keeps more detail than JPEG at the same file size.
How do I compress a PNG image?
Add the PNG and choose WebP output to keep transparency, or JPEG for photos without transparent areas. Re-saving a PNG as PNG barely changes its size, so a lossy format is what makes it smaller.
Which makes smaller files, JPEG or WebP?
WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPEG at similar quality, and every modern browser supports it. Use JPEG when a website or form only accepts JPG. To change format without compressing, use the Image Converter.
Why did my compressed image get bigger?
The image was already well compressed, so saving it again at a high quality cannot make it smaller. Lower the quality, try WebP, or reduce the pixel dimensions instead. The tool tells you when this happens.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 images (200 MB in total). They are all compressed with the same settings, and you download each one with “-compressed” added to its name.
Is it safe to compress private photos here?
Yes. Compression runs on your own device, and this page does not upload your photos, so it is safe for ID photos, documents and personal pictures.
