How to generate a strong password
- Set the length with the slider (16 or more is a good default).
- Choose the character types: uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
- Select Generate. Every selected type appears at least once.
- Copy the password and save it in your password manager.

How long should a strong password be?
At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for email, banking and other important accounts. Each extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords, so length matters more than complexity. You can check an existing password’s length privately with the Character Counter.
How do I generate a 16-character password?
Move the length slider to 16, keep all four character types on and select Generate. The strength meter shows about 100 bits of entropy, which is very strong.
How do I create a 12-character or 8-character password?
Set the slider to 12 or 8 and select Generate. Use 8 only when a site forces a short password; 12 or more is much harder to crack.
Is this password generator safe to use?
Yes. Passwords are created on your device with crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographically secure generator. They are not stored, not placed in the URL and not sent anywhere by this page.
What makes a password strong?
Length, randomness and uniqueness. A strong password is long, generated randomly rather than from words or dates, and used for only one account, so one leak can’t unlock the others.
What if a website doesn’t allow symbols?
Turn Symbols off and add a few characters of length instead. A 16-character password of letters and numbers is still very strong.
How do I make a strong Wi-Fi password?
Generate one with 16–20 characters, then share it with a Wi-Fi QR code so guests can join by scanning instead of typing it.
